Story Behind the Song

Addiction is an all-consuming, ominous disease. It takes residence inside one’s mind and inserts itself within every activity and relationship. The lyricist for On My Knees describes his battle with alcoholism and how he sought guidance from God. Nearly 34 years ago, the lyricist dropped to his knees on his tiny apartment’s kitchen floor and declared, “God, I don’t want to drink anymore.” In that instant, God heard his pleas, removed his desire to drink, and forever changed his life. This experience allowed the lyricist to become the man he is today, and that God’s love and support provided him an invaluable gift.
