The Song's Story

***THIS POEM WON OUR 2015 SONG CONTEST***

This is a poem a son wrote for his mother before he headed off to boot camp. He went through some struggles in his life, but wanted to make sure his Mom knew he was moving on to a new path in his life. He wanted to make sure he asked her one question, but in the most emotional way possible... through song. He wanted to ask her, if he made her proud.

Testimonial

David,

My son wrote me this before going off to boot camp. We wanted to send it in as a surprise, without him knowing we were doing it. He is someone that does not like to show emotion, but I could see he was trying to hold back when he heard the song, and realized the words were his. My daughter cried through the whole song. He really loves it.

Thanks again, these songs have really been the best thing I came across as emotional gifts. I find this whole concept a very unique gift that lasts a lifetime, a memory that lasts forever.

Lyrics

I've never been
the one to raise my hand
That was not me
But now that's who I am
Because of you
I am standing tall
Because of you
I found my call

This is what we dream about
But the only question with me now is,
do I make you proud
Stronger than I've ever been now,
never be afraid of standing out
But do I make you proud

I guess I've learned
To question, is to grow
that you still have faith
Is all I need to know
My heart is full
Of endless gratitude
because you were the one
to guide me through

This is what we dream about
But the only question with me now is,
do I make you proud
Stronger than I've ever been now,
never be afraid of standing out
But do I make you proud

I've learned to love myself
In spite of me
I've learned to walk the road that I believe
Now I can see, it's only just begun
I'm very proud to call myself your son

Everybody needs to rise up
everybody needs love

This is what we dream about
But the only question with me now is,
do I make you proud
Stronger than I've ever been now,
never be afraid of standing out
But do I make you proud

Do I make you proud
